On the one hand, I am the biggest lover of Thomas Hardy who I have read since I was 13, " Far From the Madding Crowd", "Mayor of Casterbridge" etc., I loved each and every one of his novels, strangely enough I tried to introduce his books into my old book club and realised that the writing was in such old english that even I (a US resident for 20 yrs ) had a hard time understanding the dialogue that apparently I had no trouble with at age 13. What has happened to me. Following Hardy I felt that I should immerse myself in biographies or non-fictions to edify myself, yet this summer picked up my daugher's vampire novels and found myself wickedly enjoying them although recognizing the total cruel attack upon the usage of the english language! The thill of the trashy novel and all that the passion offered overpowered my desire to tear the book into shreds and burn it for its destruction of our beautiful language. Hence, the guilty desires of a middle-aged housewife overuled my deep-felt convictions. It can only be downhill from here.tea-n-crumpetshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15797992980977700308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9111522655959108843.post-21348565640282002582009-09-08T12:51:49.771-07:002009-09-08T12:51:49.771-07:00Hi Lauren.
